Nana Ohene Tagoe said he had accepted the chieftaincy to contribute to the development and stability
Rev. Richard Tagoe has been enstooled as the Amanonehene of Abotakyi Akuapem in the Eastern Region, with the new chief pledging to use his position to promote development, attract investment and create opportunities for the youth.
The installation took place at the Abotakyi Palace on Monday, October 5, 2026, in a colourful traditional ceremony attended by chiefs, family members, friends, well-wishers and residents.
Rev. Tagoe, who was brought from Dodowa by members of the Tagoe family following a formal request from the Abotakyi Traditional Council, was identified and presented for installation.
The traditional rites began with the pouring of libation at his feet, followed by prayers and a purification process led by Nana Kwabena Ani I, Nkwogwahene of Abotakyi Akuapem.
Other rites included the sprinkling of calico on the new chief, the slaughtering of a ram at his feet and the pouring of oil on his feet. Musketry was also fired as the traditional authorities formally welcomed him into the chieftaincy institution.
Following the rites, the newly installed chief was carried shoulder-high through the principal streets of Abotakyi amid drumming and celebrations. A durbar was later held at the Abotakyi Palace in his honour.
