The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has provided emergency cash support to 625 people from flood-affected households in Hohoe in the Volta Region following the devastating floods that hit parts of the municipality on September 28, 2026.

The intervention, delivered through the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme, is intended to help affected families meet their immediate needs after the disaster damaged homes and properties, disrupted livelihoods and left several households struggling to recover.

The flooding followed heavy rainfall and the overflow of the River Dayi, which affected communities and left residents in need of urgent assistance.

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, visited the affected communities on September 30, 2026, to interact with residents and assess the extent of the damage.

Following the visit, the Minister directed that measures be put in place to support affected households, ease the difficulties confronting residents and help them begin the recovery process.

The emergency cash assistance is expected to enable beneficiaries to purchase food and essential household supplies, replace lost belongings and cover other urgent expenses arising from the floods.

The financial support is also intended to give affected families some relief as they work to restore their livelihoods and rebuild their lives after the disaster.

According to the Ministry, 625 people from the first batch of identified flood-affected households are benefiting from the intervention. The support forms part of efforts to respond to the immediate needs of residents whose lives and livelihoods were disrupted by the flooding.

However, the Ministry's statement did not specify the total amount disbursed, the amount each beneficiary would receive or whether additional batches of affected households would be covered under the programme.

The intervention comes as affected families continue to deal with the consequences of the flooding, including damage to property, the loss of household items and disruptions to their sources of income.
