The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region has donated 700 bags of cement and GH¢20,000 to support the construction of an orphanage at Ejura in the Ashanti Region.

The project is being spearheaded by the Ejurahene, Barimah Osei Hwedie II, and his Divisional Council as part of efforts to provide shelter, education, healthcare and other essential services for vulnerable children in Ejura and its surrounding communities.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, announced the donation during the climax of the 2026 Ejura Sekyerene Festival on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

Dr Amoakohene led a delegation comprising some Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), members of the NDC branch in Ejura, and the Member of Parliament for the Ejura Sekyere-Dumase Constituency to pay homage to the Ejurahene and his elders during the festival.

Addressing the gathering, the Regional Minister said President John Dramani Mahama had asked the delegation to join the people of Ejura in celebrating the festival and sharing in the community’s cultural heritage.

He said the donation was intended to support the Ejurahene’s philanthropic initiative and contribute to the establishment of a facility that would improve the welfare and future prospects of vulnerable children.

The Regional Minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to infrastructure development in Ejura, assuring residents that their developmental needs would continue to receive attention.

The orphanage is expected to provide a supportive environment for abandoned children, orphans and other vulnerable children, with access to quality education, vocational training and professional healthcare services.

In response, the Ejurahene, Barimah Osei Hwedie II, expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, Dr Frank Amoakohene, the MMDCEs and the Ashanti Regional NDC for their contributions to the project.

He called on individuals, organisations and well-meaning Ghanaians to support the initiative to ensure the timely completion of the facility and improve the lives of vulnerable children in Ejura and beyond.
