Former Asante Akyem North MP Kwadwo Baah Agyemang
Former Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, has declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming parliamentary primaries.
Baah Agyemang, who is also Co-Chair of the NPP’s Committee on Youth and Sports, made the announcement during a live broadcast on Salt 98.3 FM in Agogo.
He said his decision followed months of appeals and consultations with traditional leaders, Assembly Members and other influential stakeholders in the constituency.
According to him, several community leaders had encouraged him to return to active politics following the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
“After extensive consultations, deep reflection, and overwhelming encouragement from our revered Chiefs, Assembly Members, and the good people of Asante Akyem North, my path is clear,” he said.
He added that he would formally procure the nomination forms when the process permits.
Baah Agyemang said his decision was motivated by his commitment to the development of the constituency and the need to unite the NPP's grassroots supporters to reclaim the parliamentary seat.
He expressed confidence that the party could regain the constituency through unity, strategic organisation and sustained engagement with voters.
He also acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor, Andy Appiah-Kubi, and pledged to build on the development initiatives undertaken during previous NPP administrations.
Asante Akyem North, traditionally considered an NPP stronghold, was won by independent candidate Ohene Kwame Frimpong in the 2024 general elections.
The defeat ended the party's long-standing hold on the parliamentary seat.
The constituency's political landscape has since been affected by legal issues involving the sitting independent MP, who has reportedly been incarcerated.
The NPP opened nominations for its parliamentary primaries on Sunday, November 1, 2026, as the party prepares for its internal elections.
Meanwhile, some Assembly Members and grassroots organisers in the constituency have reportedly begun mobilising financial support for Baah Agyemang's anticipated campaign.
