Personnel present at the opening of the Takoradi Airport
The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has deployed a fully equipped ambulance to Takoradi Airport, paving the way for the establishment of the facility’s first dedicated ambulance station to handle medical emergencies.
The deployment is expected to strengthen emergency medical response at the airport by providing passengers, airline crew, airport workers and visitors with access to immediate prehospital care when medical emergencies or aviation-related incidents occur.
The ambulance was officially handed over to the management of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) at a brief ceremony at Takoradi Airport. The NAS delegation was led by Regional Administrators PCAEMT Frank Baffour Manu and PAEMT Ayanah Musah Abdulai.
The intervention marks a major development in the airport's emergency preparedness, as it creates the foundation for a dedicated ambulance presence within the airport enclave.
With the ambulance stationed at the facility, emergency responders are expected to reach patients more quickly, administer first aid, stabilise critical cases and arrange prompt transportation to appropriate health facilities.
The move is particularly significant given Takoradi Airport's role in supporting Ghana's oil and gas industry, as well as the growing commercial and business activities in the Western Region.
The airport serves as an important gateway for business travellers and personnel connected to the country's petroleum sector, making emergency medical readiness an essential part of its operational safety arrangements.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the NAS Regional Administrator reaffirmed the Service's commitment to extending prehospital emergency medical care to strategic national installations.
The administrator stressed the importance of making emergency medical assistance accessible wherever it is needed, particularly at facilities where prompt intervention could make a critical difference in saving lives.
Management of Takoradi Airport welcomed the intervention and expressed appreciation to the National Ambulance Service for providing the ambulance.
It also assured the Service that the vehicle would be properly maintained and used for its intended purpose.
The establishment of the ambulance station is expected to strengthen the airport's capacity to respond to medical emergencies and provide an additional layer of safety for everyone who uses the facility.
