His Royal Majesty Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, has been featured in a new book on African leadership titled KIONGOZI: The Awakening of the Elephant – Manifesto for Authentic African Leadership.

The book, authored by Dr Bell’Aube Houinato, was presented to the traditional ruler at his residence in Ho on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

It examines Africa’s leadership challenges and advocates a leadership philosophy rooted in the continent’s identity, culture, values and experiences.

The book profiles several African leaders, including Ghana’s Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Yaa Asantewaa and Togbe Afede XIV, whose leadership reflects values such as integrity, courage, selflessness, patriotism and vision.

It also presents Togbe Afede XIV as an exemplary case study of integrity in absolute solitude, highlighting his commitment to doing what is right even when no one is watching or holding him accountable.

Dr Houinato said the publication was the culmination of years of research, drawing on his experiences of living and working in Senegal, Sierra Leone, Benin, Tanzania and the United Kingdom.

He commended Togbe Afede XIV for exemplifying honesty and integrity, which he described as essential values for Africa’s progress.

He noted that a person's true character was revealed by their actions when no one was watching, rather than by what they said or did to impress others.

Other speakers, including the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Professor Lydia Aziato; Dr Simon Amegashie Viglo; and Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, also praised the Agbogbomefia’s integrity, vision and contributions to leadership and development.

In his remarks, Togbe Afede XIV expressed appreciation to the author for the recognition and said leadership remained Africa’s fundamental challenge.

He emphasised the importance of traditional values in addressing the continent’s development challenges and cited the African Traditional Leadership Institute as part of his efforts to align traditional leadership with Africa’s broader development aspirations.
