HOHOE CHIEFS EXPOSE GABUSU

By Emmanuel Gbedemah

Nineteen out of

the twenty paramount chiefs that make up the Conference of Heads of Traditional

Rulers in the Hohoe Municipality have expressed shock and dismay at the claim

by the Paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area, Togbega Gabusu VI that the

Mills government has so far failed to fulfill its promise to the Voltarians

when a whopping seventeen out of the forty development projects taking place in

the Hohoe municipality are under his jurisdiction.

In a press

briefing at Kwati in the Ve Traditional Area to react to Gabusu’s claims, the

nineteen paramount chiefs, through their spokesperson, Togbega Tsedze Atakora

VII Paramount Chief of Alavanyo Traditional Area held that the utterances of

their colleague can best be described as unfortunate. They explained that arguably,

the Hohoe municipality has benefited from more development projects under the

current administration than any other government in the Fourth Republic. They

therefore expressed shock at the ‘no development’ message being preached by

their colleague, when he, as a matter of fact, has the chunk of the

developments in the municipality.

They listed the

projects as the provision of twenty-four stores with other facilities and

pavements at the Hohoe Lorry Park, construction of a magistrate court and a feeder

road from Gbi to Atabu among others. In total, nine million Ghana cedis ( GH ¢9

million) has

been allocated for the seventeen projects.

The chiefs

opined that Togbega Gabusu VI should have been thanking the government and like

the proverbial Oliver Twist, asking for more rather than criticizing it.

They subsequently

used the opportunity to express heartfelt appreciations to the government for

the unprecedented levels of development in the municipality and asked for more,

hoping that the projects would be completed as scheduled.

They also

declared their faith in the Mills administration stating that once he has

promised the Volta Region, he would deliver on his promise. They called on well

meaning citizens of the region to rally behind the government while it brings

progress to their door-steps through development.

The nineteen

chiefs subsequently dissociate themselves from all the utterances made by their

colleague, indicating that no one chief speaks on their behalf without

consulting them.
