NGO trains Bolgatanga and Navrongo youth towards Election 2012

Youth Alive Ghana, a Non-Governmental 0rganization (NGO), has trained the youth in Bolgatanga and Navrongo as part of preparations for Election 2012.

The 48 porters and lorry station attendants drawn from the Upper East Region were schooled in the promotion and maintenance of peace, before, during and after the election.

Mr Conrad Balig, Regional Coordinator of the NGO, said the training targeted young people working at lorry stations because they were often used by politicians to cause mayhem during elections.

Mr John Bosco Azu, Deputy Upper East Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) took participant through the processes of voter registration and the handling of minors who turn out to register or vote during polls. oned them against indulging in activities that could distract the election process. Mr Alfred Yelyang, an official of the West African Network for Peace, also training facilitator, sensitized participants on conflict management and early warning systems and how to identify and respond to conflict situations.**
