About 130,000 people in 15 districts in the Northern Region are to benefit from social interventions under the Empowerment for Life (E4L) Programme.
The E4L Programme seeks to achieve education for all by 2015, improve water supply and sanitation, form community based networks, ensure food security, employment and empowerment for the youth.
It is being implemented by four units under the Ghana Developing Communities Association (GDCA), a northern Ghana-based non-governmental organization.
These are School for Life (SfL), Youth Empowerment for Life (YEfL), Community Life Improvement Programme (CLIP) and Community Based Organization / Local Organization and Mobilization (CBO/LOM) with funding from Danish International Development Assistance (DANIDA).
Some of the beneficiary districts are Savelugu, Tolon-Kumbungu, Gushegu, Saboba, Zabzugu, Karaga and Yendi Municipality.
Launching the Phase Two of the programme at a media review meeting in Tamale, Madam Rosemond Kumah, Programme Advocacy and Communications Officer of the GDCA, said it was to leverage the development gap as well as empower and improve communities to ensure a better lifestyle.
Madam Kumah said the implementation of the second phase would be from January 2012 to December 2014 adding it would involve stepping up activities started in the first phase, which started in January 2010 and ended in December 2011 to achieve maximum results.**
