Headmistress complains about non-payment of school fees

The Headmistress of the Konadu Yiadom Senior High School (SHS), in the Sekyere South District, Miss Comfort Odehe, has expressed concern about mounting school fees arrears among students.

She said the students owed about GH¢72,954.47 in school fees.

This was at the inauguration of a 13-member reconstituted board of governors of the SHS at Asamang, chaired by Mr Joseph Amposah-Minkah, a retired educationist.

She said her other worry was the lack of a boys’ dormitory, a situation that had forced the school to convert a block of six classrooms to a sleeping place for the students.

Miss Odehe said construction work on the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) girls’ dormitory project, which started some years ago, was only about 50 per cent complete.

She singled out for praise the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) for its contribution to the development of the school. It has provided them with a mechanized borehole and two polytanks and is building a block of three classrooms.

Mr Joseph K. Onyinah, the Ashanti Regional Education Director, commended the Headmistress for strengthening the school-community relationship and this has helped to improve discipline and academic performance.

Mr Amponsah-Minkah pledged to work hard to make the school environment more academic friendly.**
