The Tema Regional Office of the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) has started using computers to test prospective drivers applying for the driver’s license.
Alhaji Iddrisu Huseini, Tema Regional Licensing Officer, said the exercise which started in April included registering applicants for the computerized session on April 2nd, while the first badge of applicants sat for the exams on April 20, this year.
He said so far, 54 applicants have gone through the process with only 11 passing the exams, while the remaining 43 failed to make the pass mark of 21 out of 30 questions.
He gave the assurance that the questions which appear on the written exams were the same questions that has been fed into the computerized one.
The Regional Licensing Officer said applicants must see the computer monitor as their answer paper and the mouse as their pen, as those were the only things needed to write the computerized exams; adding that one does not need to be computer literate to be able to pass the exams.
Alhaji Huseini said the computerized exams was the only way of ensuring fairness in the examination, as no applicant would be able to pay his or her way through; saying an officer, who registers applicants cannot even make a correction once he entered the data, unless he seeks the necessary clearance.
He said before one is permitted to sit for the computerized exams, an applicant whose picture would be in the system after registration, will have to enter his reference number, after which the supervisor will also enter a code to confirm that the applicant has the right to sit for the exams.
He added that an applicant has 40 minutes to complete 30 multiple choice questions which is marked and the result produced after submission of the answers on the computer.
Alhaji Huseini said, with such a process, no applicant can challenge his or her result due to its transparency and fairness and advised applicants not to panic when they are registered for the computerized exams.**
