Striking consultants at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi say they have petitioned their mother body, the Ghana Medical Association over their unpaid allowances.

They have been on strike for almost a week.

They are now refusing to supervise the work of junior doctors until their top up allowances which have been outstanding for eight months are paid.

Health Minister, Alban Bagbin has criticized their actions and described their strategy in using to get their money as cruel.

But the spokesman for the doctors, Dr. Frank Ankobeah in an interview with XYZ News said they have no plans of resuming work until their concerns are addressed.

“Officially nothing has changed but we have complained to our mother association, the Ghana Medical Association and they will act appropriately.

“We are waiting for our monies to be paid to us; we are demanding that we sit down work out the modalities so that we would be paid monthly. So officially we have withdrawn our services”.
