Nii Ngmai Akwetey III, Chief of Akweteyman in the Okaikoi North Constituency, has advised the people to support the President-elect John Dramani Mahama and his government to enhance development of the community and the country.

He said residents of Akweteyman needed essential amenities to be able to live comfortably, and it was only when peace and unity prevailed that the government could provide those facilities.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Friday, Nii Akwetey appealed to government to provide the area with a clinic, good roads, schools and market, to help improve the living standards of the people.

He complained of the lack of footbridge to connect Akweteman to Apenkwa, near Achimota, where most of the basic schools in the area were located, making it difficult for children to cross the George Bush Highway to attend school.

“Akweteman is separated from Apenkwa by the George Bush Highway and it is at Apenkwa that most of the missionary schools are located. Crossing the highway is, however, a difficult task for children who attend school in that area,” Nii Akwetey stressed.

He called for the establishment of Information and Communication Technology centre and a library in the area to enable the youth to be abreast of modern trends.

Nii Akwetey congratulated President Mahama for winning the 2012 Presidential Election, and asked him to work hard to raise the living standards of Ghanaians.

Naa Adotsoo Akwetey I, Queenmother of Akweteyman, urged the government to liaise with the Akweteyman Traditional Council to be able to assess or identify the needs of the people.

She appealed to the government to provide roads, erect streetlights, and construct gutters to prevent flooding in the community.

Naa Akwetey said the traditional rulers would collaborate with Zoolion to organise periodic clean-up campaigns in the area to improve sanitation.

She appealed to government to build a police station in the area to facilitate the maintenance of law and order, and gave the assurance that the traditional council was ready to release land for any such project.

Naa Akwetey expressed worry that the nearest security installation to the area is the Tesano Police Station, which made it difficult for residents to have access to the law enforcers.

Nii Saka Adoquaye Acquaye, Linguist of the community, appealed to the youth to be disciplined and ensure that the area is always clean.
