Architect nominated to fill vacant Apagya Stool

A 37-year-old architect, Mr Kwadwo Kankam, has been nominated as the new Apagyahene of Kumasi.

He succeeds Oheneba Kwame Kyeretwie, the late Apagyahene, who died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) on Tuesday, January 22.

Opanin Samuel Atta Frimpong, Spokesman of the Royal Family announced the choice of the new chief at Apagyafiem on Tuesday.

He said all was set for Mr Kankam to swear the Oath of Allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at his Manhyia Palace, Thursday March 28.

The new chief is a direct nephew of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor, former Defence Minister, and Professor Francis Addo-Kufuor.

He is also the son of the late Dr Kwaku Kankam, a Medical Practitioner and former Board Chairman of Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
