Wish Foundation (WF), a non-governmental organisation, was launched in Accra on Thursday to assist women and children who have been maltreated in any form and also provide them with support.

The Foundation will focus attention on the collective effort and energies of women who have suffered, witnessed or experienced abuse and offer them emotional, social and physiological assistance.

Speaking at the launch, Mrs Asha Hoggar, President of the Foundation said: “Our mission is to draw upon the creative energies of women by providing assistance in any form to better their lives.

“The victims are still struggling to overcome their traumatic experiences, which have motivated and influenced me to set up this lifelong dream to support these women and children,” she said.

Mrs Hoggar said, the Foundation aims to help the larger society and other societal groups who are working behind the scenes in the fight to help minimise all forms of violence that infringe on the rights of women and children in the society.

She explained that the organisation would assist women and children who have suffered many forms of abuse such as rape, sexual harassment and domestic violence.

Ms Adwoa Bame, Executive Director of the Foundation said, more than 80 per cent of children are subjected to various forms of abuse and one in three women had experienced physical violence from an intimate partner.

“No child ever dreams that their loved ones will be the source of their worst pain, nor can any woman ever prepare for the violence that sometimes comes from those they love the most in places they call home,” she noted.

Ms Bame noted “we are, therefore, touched daily by women and children who are trapped by abuse, stripped of their dignity and self esteem and we work closely with other critical stakeholders to convert the hopeless situations of these survivors to stories of success.”
