Mr Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, a Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, on Tuesday, announced that Ghana was closing in on the United Nations (UN) standards of police ratio to people.

He said the ratio which stood at one policeman to 1,100 people in 2009, is currently one policeman to 700, closing in on to the one policeman to 500 people standards of the United Nations.

Mr Kwakye-Ofosu announced this during the daily briefing at the Flagstaff House, Kanda.

The deputy minister was remarking on the security situation in the country as was presented by the Interior Minister, Kwesi Ahwoi, last week.

He said with the current situation, Government was ready to tackle any security threat to the country.

Mr Kwakye-Ofosu said although Government was not expecting anything unusual in the aftermath of the Supreme Court verdict, it would do everything possible to prevent any breach of security.

He said the crime rate in the country had also come down considerably as a result of the beefing up of security in many parts of the country.

Mr Kwakye-Ofosu gave the assurance that Government would strengthen the security network.
