The construction of the Community Senior High School (SHS) at Agona Abodom is set to begin following a sod cutting ceremony.
The Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Samuel Oppong, and Dr. Augustine Tawiah, Director, Inspectorate Board of the Ministry of Education, jointly cut the sod.
The occasion was used to introduce the contractor and the consultant to the chiefs and people of the area.
The project, which includes 24 classrooms, laboratories, an ICT center and library, would be completed in 18 months.
Addressing to the gathering, Dr. Tawiah said the government is committed to transforming the education sector to become one of the best in Sub-Sahara Africa.
He said the implementation of the Community Senior High Schools concept was to stop students from traveling outside their communities to access secondary education.
Dr. Tawiah said the government recognizes the importance of human resource development hence, the huge sums of money being sunk into educational sector.
He stated that the government has also given high recognition and adequate support to the development of girl-child education.
Dr Tawiah said the time when women were pushed to the kitchen to cook and care for domestic chores were over, adding that, what men can do, women can perform equally excellently.
Dr Tawiah advised the people of Abodom and Bobikuma to take the project as theirs and not for the government to ensure its successful completion.
He asked the consultant and contractor to work meticulously to ensure value for money.
Dr Tawiah cautioned the students to avoid cheating in examination but work hard to pass with flying colours.
Mr. Samuel Oppong, MCE, said the government under President John Mahama would ensure that the chiefs and people of Agona West receive their share of the national cake.
The MCE appealed to the contractor to recruit workers from the two towns to reduce unemployment.
Mr. Charles Obeng – Inkoom, MP for Agona West, assured the people that the government would do everything possible to fix the economy to improve better standard of living.
He said over 72 communities in Agona West would be connected to the National grid to improve rural enterprises and other businesses.
