Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, Eastern Regional Minister, has called on Ghanaians to value time to help move the country forward.
He made the call at the opening of the Eastern Regional Nurses and Midwives Week celebration at Koforidua on the theme: “Nurses and Midwives, a Force for Change, a Vital Resource for Health’’.
He said this was the dawn to instill discipline and desist from the act of reporting late to work and not working up to expectation adding that such negative practices affected progress.
Mr Sekyere said the noble achievements and sacrifices made by nurses over the years had dwindled as a result of poor attitudes and lack of professionalism being exhibited by a few.
He urged the nurses to be agents of change to help people adopt healthy choices and remain focused in maximizing contributions towards improved health systems and better health outcomes.
He acknowledged the vital role nurses and midwives played that had led to many successes in health delivery of the country.
Mrs Dorcas Laryea, Eastern Regional Deputy Director of Nursing Services, encouraged nurses and midwives to take advantage of the emerging trends to upgrade their knowledge to make them a force for change and a vital resource for health.
She entreated all nurses to work selflessly, enthusiastically and passionately as that was the only way to make nurses and midwives effective.
Mr David Tenkorang-Twum, Eastern Regional Chairman of Ghana Registered Nurses Association, appealed to the Government to assist the profession with the necessary logistics in order to deliver on their mandate.
