The Sunyani Circuit Court on Wednesday sentenced a 34-year-old farmer, Lilicus Tibiri, alias Alhassan Iddrisu, to six years imprisonment in hard labour for escaping from unlawful custody and causing harm to a police officer at Atebubu in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Tibiri pleaded guilty and was sentenced accordingly.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alex Yartey Tawiah, prosecutor told the court that, the convict, a notorious armed robber has been on the police wanted list in connection with several robbery cases in the country.

The prosecutor said on August 26, 2001 at about 11 pm, the convict and other suspects attacked some traders at Kojo Boffour near Yeji with arms and robbed them of huge sums of monies.

Mr Tawiah said on the following day, at about 9am, a patrol team from Sunyani intercepted a vehicle on the Kumasi-Yeji road and during a search, Tibiri and some of his accomplices were arrested with about three million cedis on them.

ASP Tawiah said Tibiri and his accomplices were detained at the Atebubu police cells for identification parade.

On September 1, 2001 the convict and his accomplices called the police on duty to open the gate for them to go and empty their excreta container.

As soon the police officer opened the gate, Tibiri hit him with the container and escaped from custody leaving the officer unconscious.

The court heard that the convict was later found to be involved in a series of robbery incidents around Mampong in the Ashanti region and Techiman in Brong Ahafo.

In another development, the court has remanded 19-year old driver, Razak Abubakari, for defiling an eleven year-old girl.

ASP Tawiah told the court that the accused, a taxi driver lived in the same vicinity with the victim at Kotokrom near Sunyani.

He said on Jan. 23 this year, Madam Gladys Asabia, girl child education facilitator in Sunyani went to Kotokrom Urban Primary School to educate the pupils on sex education.

In the course of the programme, the eleven year-old girl stood up boldly and informed Madam Asabia that she had been sexually assaulted on several occasions by the accused in the bush, the prosecutor added.

He said the girl narrated her ordeal, saying the act had led her to be bleeding and discharging some whitish substance from her genitals.

The facilitator immediately reported the matter to the Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU) in Sunyani.

The girl was issued with a medical form to attend hospital and the accused was arrested based on the medical report, which confirmed the incident.

The accused however, denied the offence during interrogation, the court heard.
