Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a Deputy Minister of Education, has reiterated government's commitment and continuous support to the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.
He said it was the responsibility of government to guarantee a good environment for the academy to research and to discover scientific methods for application in solving scientific problems in the country.
Mr Ablakwa made the remarks when he visited the Academy to inspect its newly-constructed five storey complex, with an Auditorium, in Accra.
The office building which is expected to be completed in March 2015, is being constructed by MYTURN, a local construction firm, and has restaurant, conference halls, administrative offices and lecture halls.
He said the construction of the building indicates the commitment of government to the Arts and Sciences.
Mr Ablakwa urged the media to take keen interest in the activities of the Academy, and highlight their programmes to promote its good works.
Professor Francis Kofi Ampenyin Allotey, President of the Academy, noted that for the past two years, government has been very supportive in the activities of the academy.
He said it was the dream of Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, to put up a structure in Accra which would serve as a Research and Science hub in the West African sub-region.
He thanked the government for the commitment shown in the activities of the Academy, and appealed for more support to enhance its work.
Prof Ralph Mills-Tettey, Honorary Secretary of the Academy and Consultant to the project, said the building was 70 per cent complete, while the Auditorium was 98 per cent complete.
