The chiefs and people of Nzema East Traditional Area of the Western Region will start their annual Kundum festival from Sunday, September 27 to Sunday November 1, 2015.
The Chairman of the Nine-Member Planning Committee of the Festival, Nana Afful Kwaw III, made this known to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Teleku-Bokazo.
According to Nana Kwaw who is the chief of Teleku-Bokazo, highlight of the programme for the Festival included a durbar of senior secondary schools in the area at the traditional headquarters, Atuabo on October 30.
Participating schools would include Kikam Technical, Essiama Technical, Bozo-Kaku Essiama and Asenda Community Nurses Training Schools.
He said a cultural night of folk lore would be held on October 31 by identifiable groups in the area at Atuabo.
There would be a durbar of chiefs and people at Atuabo, on 1st November, to climax the festival. The Paramount Chief of the area, Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III, and other chiefs in the traditional area would sit in state to receive homage from the people, he said.
Nana Kwaw said President John Dramani Mahama has been invited to be a special Guest of Honor to address the Durbar.
According to him, most communities in the area will use the Festival to take stock of their past developmental and social activities and plan for the coming year.
Other invited guests included Mr Armah Kofi Buah, Minister for Energy and Member of Parliament for the Area, chiefs and other government officials, he said.
Representatives of oil, gas and mining companies operating in the area have also been invited to the Festival.
Nana Kwaw said the week-long celebration was on the theme "Our Tradition, Our Heritage, Sustainable Economic Development through the Protection of our Environment".
The Kundum Festival which originated from Ahanta is celebrated by the Chiefs and People of Nzema East and Nzema West Traditional Areas in the Western Region of Ghana and Nzemas in Grand Bassam of the Republic of Cote D'Ivoire.
