A book titled, “Land Law, Practice and Conveyancing in Ghana” would be launched at the Law Court Complex in Accra,December 10.

The book, written by Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Justice of the Court of Appeal and The Director of the Judicial Training Institute of Ghana, aims at providing enough material to be used as reference in all cases.

It talks generally about land acquisition by families, stools, corporate bodies and individuals.

The book further discusses mining and mineral rights and the steps that could be taken to acquire a mining concession.

It seeks to inform readers on compulsory acquisition of land for mining and the rights available to the “owner” of the land, as well as further proposing reforms in land administration.

The author further makes recommendations as to how to give effect to renewal clauses and alienation, or a conveyance without renewal clause.

Other subjects that can be found in the book are, definition of land in Ghana, acquisition and alienation of land, capacity to maintain action in land matters, compulsory acquisition by the State, reliefs that could be granted in land matters, evidence in land matters, types of tenancies, defences in land matters, trust and advancement, mortgages and pledges, licenses, proprietary estoppel and persons with disability in land matters.

The author, Sir Dennis, is also a Senior Lecturer at the Ghana School of Law.

Judges, lawyers, academia, estate developers, land owners, private developers and students, as well as the general public, will find the book very informative as it contributes to everyday life in Ghana.

Sir Dennis Adjei, last year launched his first book titled, ‘‘Modern Approach to the Law of Interpretation in Ghana’’.

The first book dealt comprehensively with approaches adopted by judges in the interpretations of laws and highlights, specifically, the various approaches used by the nine Justices of the Supreme Court in formulating their judgments on the 2012 Election Petition.
