The Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) has closed, temporarily, one side of the Aburi-Accra highway to traffic, as a precaution against the imminent fall of a dislocated boulder.

Road users travelling on that route have been redirected onto the Accra-Aburi carriageway, as authorities begin construction work to deal with the potentially disastrous situation.

The Ministry of Roads and Highways awarded a design-and-build contract to CST Ghana at the latter part of 2015.

Sources say work on the project is expected to end by July 2016 to enable motorists use that section of the road.

Preliminary works are expected to be completed on March 21, 2016, after which the main project will begin till the middle of the year, as scheduled by the contractor.

Initial works include topographical and geographical survey of the mountain, as well as design and working drawings.
