The MP with Mrs. Veronica Adzato-Ntem cutting the tape to open a new facility
The Headteacher of the Community 8, No.3 Junior High School (JHS) in Tema, Daniel Tetteh, has expressed his deep concern over the use of classrooms of the school as a hot spot for sexual affairs.
According to him, the classrooms have been turned into places where people have sexual affairs, adding that pupils are often greeted by packs of used condoms littered all over the classrooms and corridors when they come to school.
Besides the use of the school for sexual activities, the head teacher also disclosed that faecal matter concealed in polythene bags were often dumped on the compound of the Basic School.
Mr Tetteh appealed to the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) to wall the school to prevent intruders from accessing the place.
The head teacher made the appeal during the commissioning of a new sanitation facility for the pupils of the school to replace the old structure which had become a death trap.
The washroom which comes with eight cubicles for toilet and urinal and water tanks cost about GHS60, 000 and was built by the MP for the area. The MP also provided the school’s computer lab with internet facility to help the pupils in their research work.
“I cannot fathom why some people will come and have sex in our classrooms and on the veranda. The school, though sited in the heart of Tema, is saddled with many challenges, one of which is being addressed today. Even a quick glance at the school shows many challenges like walling the school, sand wining, defecation, a hot spot for sex, throwing of rubbish and a library facility.

“It is very disturbing when sometimes a wrapped polythene bag full of faeces is thrown into the classroom, which makes the pupils lose concentration while studying,” Mr Tetteh, head teacher of the school, noted.
On her part, the Tema Metro Education Director, Mrs Veronica Adzato-Ntem, tasked the head teacher, pupils and staff to make proper use of the facility.
She cautioned residents of the area to desist from fighting teachers and pupils over the usage of the sanitation facility, saying, “I will like to appeal to members of Community 8 to also play their role.
“Let me remind all gathered here that the facility is for the use of the school children and not for community members…”
She requested for a security guard for the facility to prevent residents from getting access to it and commended the MP for his numerous investments in education in his constituency.
Kofi Brako, MP for Tema Central, in a brief speech, mentioned that he decided to build the facility after he visited the school on assuming office.
He appealed to the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) to start walling all public schools in Tema to prevent encroachment.
