The assembly member for New Oworobong community in the Eastern Region, together with one other person, had run into trouble with law over cruelty to animals.

Kofi Nkrumah-Asante (assembly member) and the Reverend Raphael Zottor, are said to have shot and killed seven cows at Apesika-Abuom.

The pair were on Tuesday put before the Koforidua Circuit Court “A”, presided over by Mrs. Cynthia Wiredu, charged with conspiracy to commit crime, cruelty to animals, threat of harm, and firing live ammunition in public without authority.

They face additional charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.

The two pleaded not guilty and were granted bail to make their next appearance on June 28.

Police Superintendent Kofi Blagdzi told the court that the incident happened on May 25.

The herdsmen, he said, had to flee for their lives as the accused fired at the animals.

Five empty shells were later recovered by the police from the scene of the crime.
