The Ghana Free Zones Board (GFZB) has presented a cash donation of ¢10,000.00 to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) to support the celebration of this year’s Farmers Day

According to Head, Investor Support Services of Ghana Free Zones Board, Hajia Abubakar Hanatu, the move forms part of efforts to promote agriculture in order to ensure food security in the country.

It is equally in line with the company’s corporate social responsibility to reach out to farmers whose immense contribution has added value and growth to the company as well as meaning to the life of all Ghanaians.

Speaking in an interview, Hajia Abubakar Hanatu said: “We thought it wise to come and contribute our widow smite to this important event to help the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture to make the 32nd farmers day celebration a success”. “By so doing the Ministry will be able to encourage farmers to produce more to ensure food security as well as develop Ghana sustainably in the long-term”.

Hajia Hanatu pledges the board’s support towards the farmers and fishermen in the country in the near future to make them happy “simply because they will be happy to know that their contributions have made it possible for us to exist and therefore they are part of our success”.

The donation was handed to the sector Minister, Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru Limuna on behalf of the Ministry and the National Farmers’ Day Planning Committee at short ceremony held at the forecourt of the MOFA on Wednesday October, 12, 2016.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Minister, Crops and Chairman of the Planning Committee, Dr. Yakubu Ahmed Alhassan, Benjamin Gyasi, Director of Finance and Administration and Ing. Joseph Boamah, Chief Director of MOFA.

Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru Limuna receiving the donation expressed gratitude to the Ghana Free Zones Board for the support. He appealed to other corporate organizations in the country to emulate gesture. This year’s National Farmers’ Day celebration which is scheduled to take place at Kintampo in the Brong- Ahafo Region on Friday, December 4, 2016 comes under the theme: '' Agriculture; A Business Response to Economic Growth.''
