The New NDC Parliamentary candidate for the Krowor constituency in Nungua, Dr Quaye-Kumah has described allegations levelled against him by some NDC executive members of the area as baseless.
The election of Dr. Kumah over his opponent, Stephen Kwetey, has led to the resignation of the executive members of the party in the Krowor constituency in Accra.
The peeved executives have pledged their support to the defeated candidate, Steven Akwetey. They contend that Dr. Kumah is not a popular candidate and has been planted by the ruling New Patriotic Party to weaken the NDC in that constituency.
The acting chairman of the NDC in the Krowor constituency, Kedar Bortey, in an earlier interview also told JOYNEWS that Dr.Quaye-Kumah is not a registered member of the Party and was only allowed to contest to assuage volatile factionary riots in the party.
But in an interview with Joy News, Dr. Kumah denied all the allegations levelled against him. He told Joy News that he has been a member of the party since 1992 - and is registered with the Odikoman branch of the NDC in Nungua.
He said the fact that he was elected over his opponent in the primaries shows that he is a more popular candidate.
''If you are not popular, you don’t win an election. The people looked at issues, not personalities and voted for me which is why I am here'', he said.
Meanwhile the National Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress says it will investigate matters arising from the primaries in the Krowor constituency.
Speaking to Joy News the General Secretary of the NDC Dr Josiah Aryeh said the party headquarters is yet to receive any complaints regarding the primaries held over the weekend.
According to him neither the winner, losers nor constituency executives have formally written to complain about the conduct of the election or the chosen candidate.
He however said the party’s national secretariat would institute its own investigation into the concerns raised and take appropriate decision. Dr Aryeh noted that accusations and counter accusations are bound to occur with some level of exaggerations during such elections adding that it is the responsibility of the party to study the issues and try to resolve the differences
Commenting on the allegation that the parliamentary candidate elect Dr Quaye Kumah is being planted on the party, Dr Aryeh called on the those levelling the accusation to come forward with evidence, saying the party will need hard evidence to take a decision the matter
