Wa, Dec. 8, GNA - The Wa Polytechnic has now been given the mandate to run both Higher National Diploma (HND) and Non-Tertiary courses concurrently.

The HND courses at the Polytechnic had been stalled because the National Accreditation Board had not approved the running of the courses, while the Polytechnic Council had also not been duly formed.

Mr. Abraham Kofi Kumah Aidoo, Principal of the Polytechnic announced this during the first ever matriculation for 54 students undertaking HND in Secretaryship and Management Studies and HND Agricultural Engineering programmes.

Mr. Aidoo said a lecture hall complex and other infrastructure under construction at the school's permanent site would make it the first ever polytechnic in the country to posses such infrastructure.

He warned the students against laziness and misconduct, adding, "we shall not countenance laziness and disrespect as we want this school to be as a model in the country."

Mr. Sahanun Mogtari, Upper West Regional Minister said the government would do its best to provide the necessary facilities to enable more students to be enrolled.

"If Ghana has to compete and prospect in this new age of technology meaningfully in the international market, then serious attention must be given to her human resource and manpower development," he added.

The students were made to swear an oath of respect to management and to be of good conduct.
