The Ghana Police Service has refuted claims of low visibility of personnel with barely a month to the December polls.
Speaking to 3FM’s Yayra Anku on the sidelines of a press conference by the Minister of Interior, Prosper Bani, on Tuesday, Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service Superintendent Cephas Arthur said the claims, making rounds in the media, are false.
“Well I think the observation is not right, the observation is false because the police visibility is very prominent,” he said emphatically, adding that “the police presence was visible”.
The Police chief also explained that because personnel are sometimes in mufti, it was difficult to identify them. “When you go to the shopping malls and other placesm, we still have police presence there. We have police presence also in the form of police intelligent officers picking series of intelligence to analyze. They are, however, sometimes in mufti.”
Superintendent Cephas Arthur also assured there was no cause for alarm. “So I can assure you that there is nothing like police presence being minimized or reduced. It is still eminent. So I can assure the general public that there is no cause for alarm.” He also encouraged the general public to play their watch dog role by volunteering pieces of information that can help the police in its work.
