Akim Asuboa (E/R), Dec 20, GNA - The Associate Director for Field Activities, Community School Alliances (CSA), Mr. Akwasi Addae-Boahene, has called on stakeholders in education to make concerted efforts to help close the gap between urban and rural areas in the sector. "You should set aside a day to discuss the progress of education in your areas and to take the necessary steps to help raise standard of teaching and learning in schools" he said.

Mr. Addae-Boahene was addressing an education forum for School Management Committee (SMC), Patent Teachers Association (PTA) assembly members and teachers at Akim Asubua South in the Birim South District, on Friday.

It was organised by the CSA of the Quality Improvement in Primary Schools (QUIPS) projects and sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

He said a research at the universities revealed that only two percent of students from schools in rural areas gained admission and urged the participants to adopt strategies to improve education in the district.

The District Director of Education, Mrs. Stella Kwamma Nanor, advised parents to provide the basic needs of their children, pay the school levies promptly and to supervise their studies at home. She advised teachers to be punctual at school and to guard against laziness, drunkenness and other social vices.

Mrs. Nanor also urged pupils to concentrate on their studies, be regular and punctual to school "so that together we can move education forward in the district".

Mr. Yaw Amprofi, District Chief Executive, asked parents to cooperate with teachers to correct children to ensure discipline in schools.
