Over 2000 people received free medical care at Nkawkaw

Nkawkaw (E/R), Dec. 21, GNA - The Shaba Fan Club, a benevolent organization at Nkawkaw has organized a free medical treatment Christmas package to 2,500 people at Nkawkaw to enhance their health during the Christmas festivities.

Eighty million cedis of drugs were freely administered to the patients for the treatment of various illness under a medical outreach programme which was sponsored by the media pharmacy, new Coco Beach Resort, Ernest Chemist and Shaba Enterprise Limited.

Forty qualified medical doctors from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and the Ghana Medical School and 20 nurses from Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Kwahu Government Hospital and the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital took part in the programme.

In an address, the Managing Director of Shaba Enterprise limited, Mr. Adjei-Baah said though a lot of people in the country are not healthy, poverty and business activities does not allow them to seek medical attention and therefore, decided to organize the programme to bring medical treatment to the door steps of the people to supplement government's efforts to enhance effective health delivery system in the country.

He said a similar one was organized in Nungua in Accra last month, which was well attended and appealed to NGOs, individuals and philanthropist to supplement their efforts to extend the programme to other parts of the country.

Mr Adjei-Baah advised all Ghanaians to support the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) since that is the only means to cater for their health delivery system.

The Head of the Medical team, Dr Lawrence Buadi of the Urgent Care Hospital in Accra said diseases such as malaria, upper respiratory affection (Chest infection) and skin infections were treated among children while joint pains, hypertension, diabetes were treated for the adults.

He said diseases beyond their control should be referred to the Holy Family hospital and the Kwahu Government Hospital respectively for treatment.
