Accra, Dec 28, GNA - The Sakumono Branch of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) on Sunday donated items, valued at 12.5 million cedis, and 2.5 million cedis to the Teshie Orphanage in Accra and feted the inmates of the institution.
The items included rice, bread, Milo, fish, sachet water, salt, used clothing, sweets, toiletries and cooking seasoning.
They were sourced from Unilever Ghana Limited, Nestle Ghana Limited, Cadbury, Nouvelle Cold Store, CCT Bakers Inn, and Cob-A Industry. Presenting the items, Mrs Theresa Cudjoe, President of the Precious Vessels of Virtue, the Women's Ministry of the Sakumono Temple of the Church, said the gesture was a demonstration in practical term God's love through the Church to the inmates.
She said the Church trusted that God would sustain the home, its management, and the children adding by such donations and other acts of kindness, the children would belong to a true family.
In a word of assurance and hope to the children, Mrs Cudjoe said in whatever ever unfortunate situation people found themselves, God did not abandon them, but cared for them all the time.
She asked the inmates not to consider themselves as being neglected by God, adding that God was ready to provide adequately for their needs. Mr Eben Sowah, Secretary of the Orphanage, thanked the church for its kind donation.
Mrs Janet Parker, Founder of the Orphanage also thanked the ICGC for the donation adding that the Church also contributed immensely to the building of the new site of the institution.
She said the orphanage, established with 16 children in 1995, now had 38 inmates within the age bracket of eight months and 21 years. Mrs Parker said the Orphanage had enrolled some of the inmates in Primary and Junior Secondary schools.
She announced that the institution was also assisting the inmates to undergo vocational training.
Mrs Parker, however, said the payment of school fees, the provision of books and school uniform were the main problems facing the Orphanage and appealed to individuals and organisations for support.
