Gomoa Ankamo, Jan. 7, GNA - Mr. Ben Afful, the Gomoa West constituency chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has appealed to people in the area to actively participate in the impending voters' registration exercise.

He expressed regret that even though the Gomoa District was the most populous in the Central Region, it could not get a fair share of the national cake because the people there did not take the last population census seriously.

In an interview with the GNA at Gomoa Ankamo on Tuesday, Mr Afful said the government could not create a new district out of the old one because of the lack of accurate population data.

"We should not blame the government for not creating a new district for us. We should blame ourselves," he said. Mr Afful noted that the Gomoa West constituency alone had over 180 towns and villages and appealed to chiefs and assembly members to encourage the people to register in the exercise to enable the government and the electoral commission have a reliable data on the population.

He asked communities, which required polling stations to facilitate elections to send their applications to the office of the electoral commission at Apam for the necessary action. Mr Afful announced that the NPP would organise a fund raising at Gomoa Ankamo on Saturday, January 10, 2004 to support its activities and programmes and appealed to members and supporters to help make the activity a success.
