Kumasi, Jan. 14, GNA- Machinists and carpenters at the Anloga light industrial area in Kumasi have been advised against the indiscriminate burning of waste materials or dumping of such materials into a nearby stream since such a habit causes environmental problem.
Togbe S.K. Fugah, President of the Ghana Tertiary Wood products Association (GHATEWPA), said saw dust and off-cuts declared as waste, should be dumped at an appropriate place.
He was briefing the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Wednesday on measures that should be adopted by carpenters and machinists in the area to avoid pollution of the environment.
He noted that the Anloga light industrial area had become vulnerable to fire outbreaks and with the severity of the harmattan, the least recklessness could lead to disaster.
"If even you decide to burn your waste, the prudent thing to do is to call the Anloga Small-Scale Carpenters anti-fire volunteer squads to assist you in order to ensure that the fire does not spread to other areas."
Togbe Fugah commended the anti-fire volunteer squad for their good works and urged them to embark on intensive fire prevention campaign for carpenters, machinists and charcoal burners in the area.
