Ejisu (Ash), Jan 17, GNA - The government of Ghana has entered into a co-operation with Germany for the construction of a four-billion cedi hospital at Ejisu to enhance health delivery in the area. A consultant from Germany will arrive in the country at the end of January this year to evaluate structures of the hospital to determine additional facilities that would be required for the health institution.
Mr Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, the Ejisu-Juaben District Chief Executive (DCE), announced these at Ejisu on Friday at a people's forum, which gave the opportunity to people to ask questions about the development of the district.
He was reacting to concern expressed by Madam Martha Osei Dwamena, about the poor health situation in Ejisu. She said the nearest hospital to the town was at Juaben and people found it difficulty to visit there because of transportation difficulties.
Mr Afrifa commended Nana Aboagye Agyei II, Ejisuhene, for using his own resources to clear a mountain of refuse in the town and gave the assurance that the assembly would remove the remaining garbage. The Reverend Asare Adjei wondered why the 'Hansard' was sold only in Accra thereby denying other people outside the city the opportunity to know in detail the proceedings of Parliament and asked the authorities to ensure that the document was sold through out the country.
He cited that officials in the district had little knowledge about the Right to Information and the Domestic Violence Bills, which were being laid before Parliament for enactment into law. Rev Adjei blamed this on the inability of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Akwasi Osei Adjei, who is the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs to visit the constituency and interact with the officials.
Mr Afrifa said the district would produce cassava, tomatoes, citrus and vegetables and undertake food processing, under the President's Special Initiative, to create jobs for the people. He said the assembly was constructing a model senior secondary school at Ejisu with HIPC funds to enhance education in the district. Mr Afrifa said teachers would be assisted to give up their best towards the development of education in the area. He said the assembly was constructing water closet toilets for 20 communities and sinking 81 boreholes in the area adding that 187 more boreholes would be sunk by the end of September this year.
Mr Afrifa announced that the assembly would provide potable water to the people of Ejisu and Kwamo and said the district topped the region in the execution of European Union projects. He commended the chiefs and people for ensuring peace in the district, which enabled the assembly to undertake development projects.
