Danteng (E/R), Jan 18, GNA- Seven people, including a Customs Officer, died on the spot and two others later at the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital on Sunday morning, when a Dodgeram bus travelling from Accra to Kumasi ran into a Burkina Faso articulated truck at Danteng, near Nkawkaw.
Seven other passengers, who were seriously injured, are on admission at the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Kwahu Government Hospital at Atibie.
A source from the Nkawkaw Police said the Dodgeram bus, with registration number AS 6256 T, travelling at top speed, was trying to overtake a vehicle ahead of it but veered off the lane, and ran into the articulated truck with registration number 11G 9375 BF, from Burkina Faso and heading to Tema Harbour.
The police source said the accident, which occurred at about 0700 hours, was due to poor visibility as a result of the foggy weather. The source said the bodies so far identified are: Emil Anaybui, the Customs Officer of the Tema Collection Unit, Eric Akwasi Kyere of House Number H/87, Berekum, Albert Donkor, and Tawiah the driver of the Dodgeram bus.
The Nkawkaw Police source said the Nkawkaw Police had a telephone message from the Tema Harbour Police that a Burkinabe articulated truck driver, Zaribu Musah, had been arrested by the Fishing Harbour Police, and invited the Nkawkaw Police to assist in their investigation. The Nkawkaw Police appealed to people whose relatives travelled from Accra to Kumasi on Sunday morning to visit the Holy Family Hospital at Nkawkaw to identify the injured and the Kwahu Government Hospital at Atibie to collect the bodies of the deceased.
