Public workers urged to be neutral in political campaigns

Assin Foso (C/R), Jan. 27, GNA - The Assin District Chief Executive, Mr Kwabena Karikari Apau, has urged public workers in the district to demonstrate a high sense of a neutrality in the forthcoming general elections.

He said their neutrality notwithstanding, they also had a duty to support the government to implement its policies and programmes since they were the special brains the government requires to successfully carry out its programmes.

Mr Apau said this in a speech read for him at a reception organised by the District Assembly in honour of workers in the district at Foso. The DCE expressed concern about the way some departmental heads delayed in the submission of their quarterly reports and called for a proactive approach to work this year.

Touching on education, Mr Apau said in the past years the assembly had spent more than a third of its development budget on the sector and urged all stakeholders to join hands in improving the falling standard of education in the district.

He commended the staff for their support for the assembly and urged them to work harder this year to make the district a reference for others in the region.

Mr James Mensah chairman of the Heads of Department and Senior Officers' Association in the district assured the government of a peaceful labour front and increased productivity throughout the year and reiterated the call on the government to restore the Cap 30 pension scheme for workers.

He said although members of the association were ready to maintain the existing enabling environment between it and the government and also to support all positive initiatives, they were however unhappy about the delay by the government to restore the cap 30 pensions since the delay was causing anxiety among workers.
