Kade (E/R), Jan 27, GNA - The Kwaebibirem District Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has since its inception in 1999, received 1,563 complaints out of which 1,246 have been successfully settled.
According to a statement issued at Kade and signed by the District Director, Mr William Osafo-Offinam, 22 complaints were lodged in 1999, 485 in 2000, 360 in 2001, 331 in 2002 and 303 in 2003.
Statistically, 79.7 per cent of the total complaints received during the period were successfully settled or disposed off. The statement said the office also organized 83 public educational programmes and noted that education is the "most important means through which the enforcement process could be enriched and preserved." Consequently, it noted that in order to bring Human Rights messages and issues to the doorsteps of the citizenry, the Kwaebibirem District Directorate of the Commission, last year alone, organized 15 educational programmes to sensitize the general public on their fundamental human rights and freedoms as enshrined in the 1992 constitution of the country.
The statement said the office had been able to reduce to an appreciable level, the number of litigation cases brought to the Commission, saying "the series of letters of appreciation being received from people after having their complaints heard, is an indication of the good work being done by the Commission.
