Agyina (B/A) Jan. 30, GNA- The Kintampo District Assembly has constructed four boreholes valued at 160 million cedis for residents of Agyina, a farming community in Brong Ahafo.
The community is to raise 10 million cedis to be deposited with the district assembly's water and sanitation (WATSAN) project fund for the maintenance of the boreholes.
Mr. Opoku Agyeman, Assembly Member for the area told Ghana News Agency that the boreholes had really relieved the people of getting good drinking water.
He commended the government and the Kintampo District Assembly for assisting the people to initiate a number of development programmes to enhance their living standards.
The Assembly Member announced that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), under the Quality Improvement in Primary Schools (QUIPS) project, had also constructed a six-classroom block for the local primary school.
Habitat for Humanity Ghana is also assisting a group of people in the area to construct houses to accommodate their families. Four of the houses are completed, he said, adding that the facility would be extended to other areas.
Mr Agyeman said the seven-kilometre feeder road linking Agyina and Amoma with Pramposo Junction on the Kintampo-Tamale main road has also been constructed pending gravelling, and on completion it would facilitate easy movement of the people and their farm produce.
He appreciated the efforts of the government towards the development of the area and expressed the hope that other more development programmes would be initiated in the area when NPP retained power to continue with their good works.
The Assembly Member called on the people to bury their political differences and forge ahead in unity to promote the development of the area.
Meanwhile, eligible voters in the area have been urged to register when the voter's register is re-opened in March to enable them to exercise their franchise.
