Gyetiase (Ash), Jan. 30, GNA - Mr David Williamson, a Water Engineer of BESO, a British Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has begun a three-week feasibility studies into the Asante-Mampong water situation.

Mr Williamson who would assist the district to draw up a water programme is also expected to use the findings to lobby for financial assistance in Britain to solve the water problem of the district.

Speaking at a durbar organised by the Sekyere West District Assembly in his honour at Gyetiase near Mampong on Tuesday, Mr Thomas Edward Atakorah, District Chief Executive, said Mr Williamson would help the Assembly to assess the water situation to adopt the right approach in addressing the problem.

He advised the people not to farm close to streams and water bodies, which was one of the factors leading to the drying up of streams during the dry season.

Mr Atakorah charged them to ensure that nobody farmed close to streams or set bush fires to plunge the nation into disaster like the one experienced in 1983.

Mr Williamson said, the water situation in the district was very challenging, adding that, the solution would be both capital and labour intensive and urged the people to be ready to contribute financially. Nana Adu Adjei Bonsafo 111, Nsutahene, said the problems of the community include lack of classrooms, water and health facilities and expressed the hope that they would be solved after the studies. He appealed to the people to protect the environment to support both plants and animals.
