Block of two-storey school inaugurated

Obuasi, Feb 2, GNA - The government will continue to provide educational infrastructure and improve the existing ones to facilitate teaching and learning in the country.

Mr Joe Boampong, the Adansi West District Chief Executive (DCE), gave the assurance when he inaugurated a 631 million-cedi block of two-storey junior secondary school (JSS) at Boete, a suburb of Obuasi at the weekend.

The DCE said the assembly with its share of the common fund financed the project to promote education in the area. He said since the NPP assumed power it had continued all school projects started by the previous government including that of Boete JSS as a sign of good governance.

Mr Boampong said the assembly was committed to abolishing the shift system at Obuasi and its environs since the method was not helping in the improvement of academic standards.

He said, consequently, the assembly would build blocks of classrooms at Kwabenakwakrom, Pomposo and Kunka Junction this year. The DCE advised parents to co-operate with the assembly towards the development of education in the area.

He also urged parents to invest in the education of their children, adding, "at all cost we must send our children to school".

Mr Kofi Aboagye Agyeman, the headmaster of Boete JSS 'A', commended the assembly for the building the new block and also for rehabilitating the old JSS block to enhance education in the area. He urged the assembly and the district education directorate to collaborate efforts to provided the Boete JSS and Obuasi JSS complex with computers, library books, telephone, water, electricity and toilet to promote academic work.
