Farmer jailed 8 years for defilement

Mpraeso (E/R), Feb.12, GNA- The Mpraeso Circuit Court has sentenced a 25-year-old farmer, Daniel Tettey, to eight years imprisonment for defiling a 10-year-old primary three pupil at Akoase in the Birim North district.

Tettey, pleaded not guilty and the court, presided over by Mr Kwabena Asuman Adu ordered that the sentence should take effect from August, last year, when he was charged with the offence.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Alex Acheampong told the court that on February 27, 2002, the accused sent the victim, who was watching a film in the house, to go and buy him food.

He said soon after she left, the accused followed her up and asked her to accompany him and lured her to an uncompleted building and had sex with her.

The prosecution said when the victim was confronted she said the accused had sex with her but Tettey denied it, but he was arrested and sent to the police station.

A medical report later confirmed that the accused had sex with her.
