Saboba (NR), Feb. 17, GNA - The Rural Integrated Literacy and Development Programme (RILADEP), a Saboba based NGO has disbursed 50 million cedis to 42 groups and individuals in the Saboba/Cheriponi District to help alleviate their poverty.
Seventeen women's groups received 40 million cedis to increase their income-generating activities, while 25 farming households were supported with 10 million cedis to purchase bullock ploughs to assist them in their farming activities.
Mr Mark Mawam, Acting Programme Manager of RILADEP told the GNA in Saboba on Tuesday that the amount, a revolving fund exceeded last year's support of 35 million cedis to similar groups and individuals.
He said RIRADEP was aimed at assisting and supporting Poverty Reduction Initiatives as well as tackling the high illiteracy rate in the Saboba/Cheriponi District and other related problems.
The Programme Manager said apart from fighting poverty and illiteracy the NGO was also involved in the fight to curb the HIV/AIDS pandemic as well as peacekeeping programmes in the region especially to help solve the Dagbon conflict.
Mr Mawam said the organization has identified 40 communities within and outside the district to educate the people on peace maintenance and the dangers of the HIV/AIDS, which were still high in the country.
He commended the ActionAid Ghana, for its material and financial support, which had sustained the activities of RILADEP, adding that the management of RILADEP would continue to offer humanitarian services to the communities.
