Tamale, Feb. 27, GNA- Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in the Northern Region have been cautioned to go by the of the Director-General of Education not to impose unauthorized levies on parents to bring sanity into school administration
Mr Samani P. Dakurah, Assistant Northern Regional Director of Education in-charge of Human Resource Management and Development said the public had raised concern about collection of unauthorized fees by some PTAs and called on them to desist from such "unilateral decisions".
Mr Dakurah was speaking at the handing over of 45 computers donated by Friends of the Netherlands and a 95 million-cedis bungalow built by the PTAs of the Tamale Business Senior Secondary School (BISCO) in Tamale to mark the school's 40th anniversary on Thursday.
The Assistant Regional Director advised the PTA executives to consult heads of institutions for direction if there was the need to introduce additional levies.
Mr Dakurah complained the inadequate infrastructure development in the school and urged the Old Students Association and the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to initiate projects in the school. He commended Mr Lex Hogenbosch an Information Communication and Technology Coordinator of the Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) for facilitating the donation of the computers.
Mr Hogenbosch in an interview with the GNA said he was expecting 20 more computers from friends and family members in the Netherlands for the school.
He said he would introduce practical computer programme in the school to enable the students to read and write with the computer adding that plans were advanced to connect the school to the Internet to enable the students to it.
