Tanoanafo (B/A), March 1, GNA- The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture have jointly organized a forum at Tanoanafo in Techiman Municipality to sensitize the people on the voters registration exercise, good agricultural practices and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Chiefs, people, unit committee members and opinion leaders attended the programme, held under the auspices of Government Accountability Improves Trust (GAIT).
Mr. John Manu, Techiman Municipal Director of Ministry of Food and Agriculture advised farmers to embrace modern methods of agriculture to enable them to increase production.
He asked them to form groups to enable them to gain access to loan facilities to expand their activities, explaining that such groupings would also help them to determine prices for their produce. Mr. Samuel E. Ayobi, Officer in-charge of crop services urged the farmers to adopt improved varieties of seeds for better yield by following appropriate agricultural methods.
Mr. Peter Kwabena Gyasi, a Civic Education Officer in-charge of programmes of the NCCE advised the participants and eligible voters to patronize the forthcoming voters registration exercise as a national duty to enable them to exercise their franchise.
Speaking on registration offences, he cautioned them against multiple registration, impersonation and unlawful possession of registration materials, intimidation and unlawful interference with the registration process.
The possession of the voter's identification card is a great asset that can help the holder to receive remittances through Western Union Transfers and identification at international borders, he said. Mr. Kwabena Darko, Techiman Municipal Director of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and chairman of the district health insurance scheme, speaking on the national health insurance scheme urged the people to embrace it, as it would help them to gain access to affordable quality health care.
Earlier, Miss Felicia Brefo and Mr. Solomon Mensah Aborampah, GAIT facilitators asked the participants to put into practice what they would learn at the forum.
The Unit Committee Secretary of Tanoanafo, Mr. Kwabena Arhin, who presided, asked the organizers for periodic organization of the programme.
