Groupe Ideal to inaugurate University of Cape Coast School of Economics

The President of Groupe Ideal, Dr Nii Kotei Dzani, has pledged support to transform the Economics Department of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), into a full-scale School of Economics.

According to Dr Dzani, it is the focus of his company to help raise the standards and credibility of economic studies to be able to predict aptly the country’s economic forecast.

The Groupe President made the disclosure when he together with some top executives of the company donated over 30 computer sets, laptops and some office accessories to help lecturers and students with their research works of the department.

Dr Dzani also the youngest member of the Council of State, addressing the Vice chancellor of the University, media and some faculty members intimated that his gesture to the Economics Department was borne out of his commitment to the educational sector of the country.

He also insisted that, Ghana’s educational sector needs to focus more on discipline in order to churn out quality graduate with the right attitude in ensuring economic discipline in all sectors of the country.

“Education is the only means that we can develop as a country. And as a country we must streamlined our educational system for graduates to appreciate the values of society. No matter how well we set up industries and factories in this 21st century, if our citizens are unpatriotic who will inflate prices of contracts and steal from the state then we are getting nowhere as a country,” Dr Dzani cautioned.

“Our intention as a company is to collaborate with the Economic Department of the University to establish the School of Economics. We are going to support the department with logistics and resources to be able to predict appropriately the economic fundamentals of this country in a right direction,” he assured.

Dr Dzani also used the opportunity to interact with some students of the Economics Department and encouraged them to live their dreams.

On his part, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor Joseph Ghartey Ampiah expressed the University’s appreciation to company and thanked the President for his continuous support.

He also added that he would ensure the university did their part in making the collaboration a reality and to see the transformation of the economics department.

Professor Ampiah revealed that a paper had already been presented to the Academic Board of the University to consider the transformation and expressed the hope that would be done soon.
