Police Demand Bribe Before Returning Money

Reports say the Asanteman police are refusing to hand over an amount of $1.2 million to the rightful owner because he has refused to pay a bribe of ?200,000 demanded from him (the owner).

According to sources, the owner, who is also the complainant, (Bula) said one Toronto bought drinks from him and apparently bolted with both the cash and the bottles some two years ago.

This the complainant continued that ?Toronto? was not seen again until February this year he (Bula) spotted ?Toronto? and caused his arrest. Whiles in the police custody, the company in which the suspect works, decided to pay for the amount the suspect (Toronto) owns ?Bula? but the CID who is known as Ben Defiah demanding that the company offered ?200,000 to him before the suspect could be released, but the company could be released but the company refused and went ahead to pay the original amount the Toronto owned Bula.

This, the CID Ben Defiah refused to handover the money to him (Bula). However, when Bula insisted to take his money the CID said to him (Bula) that, bottle for drinks have been brought by the suspect so they have been ordered to deduct the bottle cost from the 1.2 million.

Meanwhile, when contacted, the company, which paid the money on behalf of Toronto, the suspect, denied ever giving ordered to the police to deduct any such amount being the cost of bottle from the 1.2 million.

According to Mr Daniel Quarshie, who is the administrative Manager of J&W Furniture thus where the suspect works as a contractor, and who paid the money on behalf of the suspect theirs was to pay whatever their client (Toronto) owned Bula and since they have done it they including the suspect have nothing to do again with the police neither the complainant (Bula). He also confirmed of the CID demanding something but failed to state if it is bribe.
