Kpedze (V/R), Mar 5, GNA- Mr Francis Agbotse, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho-West has urged professionals and other well placed people in the society to help the less privileged in society. Mr Agbotse was speaking at a ceremony at which "Kids Around the World" a philanthropic organisation based in Illinois in the United States (US), handed over a children's play ground to the chiefs and people of Kpedze on Thursday.
"Kids Around the World" which builds playgrounds for children around the world, presented books including encyclopaedia and computers worth 100 million cedis for distribution to schools and libraries in the area. Mr Chuck Howard, a Road Engineer, Mr Jack Turner, building contractor and Mr Tim Durkee, a Professor of Medicine, representatives of the organisation earlier took part in installing the play and games equipment together with members of the beneficiary community. The playing items included a swing, slide, volley and basketball sets. Togbega Atsridom V, Paramount Chief of the Kpedze Traditional Area, warned against the pilfering of the items.
Reverend Richard Afenyo Daketse, Resident Pastor of the EP Church, Ghana said it would be a dereliction of parental duties if they allowed their children to spend all their time playing to the neglect of their books and household chores.
The visiting members of the organisation were taken round the Kpedze Health Centre. They promised to solicit help to establish an eye clinic and also procure some essential drugs to be dispensed at the centre. Mr John Edzor, Laboratory Technician at the Centre told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that most people in the area travel to Ho because there was no medical officer at the centre, which on the average attends to only five patients daily.
