Hundreds of residents at Banu, a predominant farming community in the Sissala East District of the Upper West region have been rendered homeless following a rainstorm that hit the area on Saturday night.

Several structures have been ripped off and some buildings pulled down completely as a result compelling the displaced persons to seek alternative shelter at a local school in the community.

Ayamga Bawa Fatawu, a local journalist in the area reports that electricity power has also been cut in the community because most of the polls were pulled down as a result of the storm.

“It all started yesterday around 10:30pm when it threatened to rain accompanied with the storm leaving residents in the state of fear and panic. Though there were no causalities, many buildings were not spared, as they either got their roofs ripped off or the entire building been razed down. Victims have been left homeless and have had to seek for shelter with neighbors and a local school”, he revealed.

Displaced persons are therefore calling on government and philanthropists to come to their aid.

They are also calling on workers of the Volta River Authority to come and help clear the naked wires as it poses a great danger to residents.
