Kumasi, March 15, GNA- The National Commission on Culture (NCC) would soon inaugurate a cultural trust fund to promote and sustain creativity, invention and enterprise, as well as establish infrastructure for cultural activities.
The Commission would also unveil a national website on Ghanaian culture and inventories on all major cultural assets in the country to preserve national cultural heritage and also create a database for investors.
Professor George Panyin Hagan, Chairman of the NCC announced this at the launch of the Asanteman Adae-Kese festival and the 5th anniversary of the enstoolment of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11, in Kumasi on Monday.
Professor Hagan said chieftaincy institution could survive only when the country's culture survived and appealed to chiefs to support the Commission to achieve its aim.
He commended the Asantehene for his initiatives since he was enthroned and said that had earned him a lot of recognition around the world.
Professor Hagan said the establishment of the Otumfuo Education Trust fund, had helped a lot of school children to continue their education at all levels.
He noted that, to promote traditional leadership as a vehicle of accelerated development, leaders must be educated or committed to the quest of knowledge transparency, honesty, loyalty, democracy, and accountability to all people.
Professor Hagan said it was when traditional leaders had these qualities that they would be seen as a force for community and national development.
He appealed to traditional leaders to initiate projects and programmes that would promote the quality of life of their people and do away with all outmoded cultures that could impede the development of the people.
Barimah Asumadu Sakyi 11, Paramount chief of the Kumawu Traditional Area, who is the chairman of the planning committee, said a number of activities including traditional games competition, traditional food fairs, traditional beauty contests and gospel music shows had been lined up for the programme.
He said apart from the religious importance of the Adae-Kese festival, its celebration with the Otumfuo's 5th anniversary would afford the Asanteman the opportunity to showcase its rich cultural heritage.
